Dallas Property Management : Banishing Black Mold Naturally

Even if black mold has never plagued your rental community, Dallas property management professionals still recommend that you and your maintenance management staff keep a constant eye open for it. This is because black mold can be extremely toxic, creating respiratory problems for those who breathe it.

Natural Black Mold Remedies

There are several natural substances you can try to banish mold:

• White vinegar - This universal household item is an effective antifungal substance. Using gloves and a breathing mask, spray undiluted white vinegar directly onto the mold, then wait for one or two hours before wiping up with paper towels. Repeat the process until there is no trace of mold, then spray once again and leave on. The strong vinegar smell will dissipate.
  
  
• Baking soda - Dilute a teaspoon of baking soda in a cup of water and spray, letting it rest before using a scrub brush to clean. Spray again and leave it on. A good method is to follow up the vinegar treatment with a dose of baking soda, which should kill any spores left behind.
  
  
• Grapefruit seed extract - This is also an effective, natural antifungal liquid. Mix ten drops into one cup of water, then drench the moldy sections with it, leaving it to soak in. Spray again the next day if you can still see the mold. Grapefruit seed extract is odorless.
  
  
• Borax - Dissolve ¼ cup of borax in one cup of water, then spray and clean with a scrub brush. Spray again, leaving the borax solution on.
