Property Management in DFW : Common Roofing Materials

Below, courtesy of property management in DFW, is a brief comparative discussion of common roofing materials.

Common Roofing Materials

  • Ceramic tile roofs - These are popular throughout the southwestern states, especially Texas, New Mexico, California, and Arizona. Ceramic roof tiles are consistently among the most expensive options for roofing materials, and provide a beautiful texture and practical coverage. One can also find lookalike concrete tiles designed to give the illusion of the traditional Spanish tiles.

  • Metal sheeting - Priced at the lowest end of roofing materials, metal sheeting turns out to be long-lasting and easy to put up. The large metal sheeting goes on quickly and covers large areas without the possibility of leaks. It can be composed of almost any type of metal, from aluminum to stainless steel. Often, metal sheeting is covered with ceramic tiles to create a more appealing appearance.

  • Composition shingles - Shingles are practical for roofing, and they represent the most economical roofing option, although their installation cost is usually on the high side since it is labor intensive. Composition shingles are manufactured out of fire-resistant fiberglass, asphalt, ceramics, or even paper-based products.

  • Wooden shake tiles - These give any roof a beautiful natural finish. They weather nicely over time, just as natural wood usually does, but they have the same vulnerabilities as wood and must be well-protected. The cost of wood shakes is among the highest in roofing materials, with a steep installation price tag to match.
